History: The principle of both lamps (sputnik12 + 42) is based on the of Mr. R. Buckminster Fuller 1946 developed and invented energetic geometry of the closest packing of balls. Therefore 12 or 42
bulbs (balls) of same diameter are added together, so that each bulb touches all
neighbouring bulbs. From it a super ordinate spherical shape results within that the bulbs are closely and symmetrically packed. This concept of a finite system of universal geometry can be theoretically pursued further. Thus the next larger lamp would consist of 92 bulbs.

sputnik12: 12 bulbs of same diameter fit together symmetrically and tangential at the corner points
of an icosahedron (one of the 5 platonic bodies. it has 20 triangle plane surfaces and 12 edges.) around an imaginary ball in the center, radially and touching each of the neighbouring bulbs. (Gluing with heatproof, transparent silicone). In this system of the closest bulb packing in the spherical appearance each one of the 12 bulbs is screwable and lights.

sputnik42: 42 bulbs of same diameter are arranged compactly symmetrical and tangential at the vertices and edge midpoints of an Icosahedron, radial and touching each of the neighbouring bulbs. (It’s glued together with heatproof and transparent silicone). The place of one bulb is replaced by a mounting plate and serves as the holder for a removable 230 Volt halogen bulb, which is then inside the “lightbody”.
